Latvijas Tilti not to sign agreement on reconstruction of quays at Klaipeda port

BC, Riga/Vilnius, 24.05.2016.Print version
Due to the long litigation process that took more than eight months during which prices have risen, Latvia's road and bridge construction company Latvijas Tilti will not sign an agreement on reconstruction of quays at the Lithuanian seaport of Klaipeda, informs LETA.

The company’s representatives said that Latvijas Tilti have repeatedly initiated talks with the directorate of Klaipeda seaport to solve the situation, but the directorate refused to start talks, excluding Latvijas Tilti from the list of bidders in the procurement.

In September 2015 Latvijas Tilti submitted its offer in the tender on reconstruction of quays used by Bega stevedore. Latvijas Tilti was announced the winning bidder, but results were appealed later by Latvian construction company BMGS, claiming that Latvijas Tilti bid was abnormally low and unreasonable.

A Lithuanian court in February gave the green light for the port of Klaipeda and Latvijas Tilti to sign the contract. While the offer of Latvijas Tilti was still in force, Klaipeda port decided not to sign the contract yet and wait for the final decision of the court.

The Lithuanian Court of Appeals on May 12 dismissed an appeal filed by BMGS.

However, considering the long-term litigation process, and growing prices of sub-contractors, Latvijas Tilti is not able to keep up its offer for the earlier agreed price.
