Lithuanian air carriers' passenger numbers fall by 10.8% in 4 months

Lithuania's air carriers saw their total passenger numbers fall by 10.8% in the first four months of 2016 from a year ago to 101,500 passengers, preliminary figures from Statistics Lithuania showed on May 20th, cites LETA/BNS.

The total volume of cargo and mail handled by the country's air carriers dropped by 10.9% to 152.1 tons.

 

In April alone, Lithuania's airlines carried 34,300 passengers –- up 50.8% month-on-month, but down 12.2% year-on-year.

 

A total of 1.293 million passengers went through Lithuania's airports during the first four months of 2016, a rise of 15.4% on the same time last year, preliminary figures from Statistics Lithuania showed on Friday.

 

The largest passenger numbers flew to and from Britain (286,100, or 22.1% of the total number), Germany (130,600, or 10.1%), and Norway (105,600, or 8.2%).

 

Year-on-year increases were recorded in passenger numbers to and from Denmark, at 70.8%, Spain, at 40.4%, and the United Kingdom, at 18.5%.

 

The country's airports handled a total of 4,500 tons of cargo and mail in January through April, up 26% from a year ago.
