BC, Vilnius, 28.04.2016.Print version
Uber, a US-based international ride-sharing network that launched operations in Lithuania last fall, and the State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) on April 27th signed a memorandum that will allow exchanging information about drivers in the Uber system, reporting their income and paying taxes, informs LETA/BNS.

Enn Metsar, general manager at Uber for the Baltic countries, expects that the Seimas will soon pass legislation that will set out the principles for the firm's operations in Lithuania.

"It is important to create cooperation and tools so that the people who participate in sharing economy can easily disclose. It's really good to start cooperating with the VMI. We are very hopeful that the legislation that will set the parameters for ride sharing will be passed in the parliament," he said at a news conference.

According to Metsar, Uber's drivers will be more encouraged to report their income if the declaration system is understandable and easily accessible.

He could not say how many drivers were working for Uber in Lithuania.

According to information available to BNS, there are around 200 such drivers in Vilnius.
