Lithuanian resort Neringa raises entry fees

Lithuania's Curonian Spit resort Neringa will charge an entry fee of 20 euros per car in the summer peak season, reports LETA/BNS.

The Neringa municipal council has decided to double the entry fee for passenger cars in the period between Jun. 20 and Aug. 20 to 20 euros, from the current 10 euros.

The entry fee for motorhomes rises to 30 euros, from 20 euros.

Neringa Mayor Darius Jasaitis told BNS on Monday that the new fees, approved last week, was aimed at encouraging tourists to travel to Neringa using other modes of transport instead of private cars.

"We are looking forward to welcoming as many tourists as possible, but we cannot cope with the influx of cars during this period," he said.

The entry fee for passenger cars remains unchanged at 5 euros per vehicle during the rest of the year.
