Estonian police to buy in-car video systems for EUR 260,000

BC, Tallinn, 10.02.2016.Print version
Estonian police is about to buy up to 51 sets of Digital Ally DVM 800 in-car camera systems for fitting into police vehicles for a total cost of 260,000 euros during four years, informs LETA/BNS.

The framework agreement with the supplier, BDP Eesti OU, was signed on Friday, Kalmer Tikerpe, senior law enforcement official at the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, said.

"Each of the units consists of multiple cameras, one of which is a dashcam so to speak and the other a camera recording image from the inside of the car. In addition the device features a wireless microphone that can be fitted into an officer's chest pocket," Tikerpe said.

The microphone enables to add to the video image a recording of the conversation of the police officer with the driver of an intercepted vehicle, for instance. In addition to video and audio the device records speed camera data integrated with the video image.

The per-unit price of the devices is 5,090 euros and the estimated value of the agreement is 260,000 euros. Up to 51 units of the devices that include a replacement rear view mirror will be bought and fitted into police vehicles used in traffic surveillance, including cars painted in police colors and police vehicles painted in standard vehicle color. The price includes the cost of training for 15 officials.

The device comes with 32 GB of internal memory and a detachable SD memory card of similar size for recording video in 720x480 resolution.
