Tallink sells fast ferry Superstar for EUR 91.5 mln

BC, Tallinn, 10.11.2015.Print version
The listed Estonian shipper AS Tallink Grupp has sold its fast ferry MS Superstar for 91.5 million euros to Medinvest SpA and the ferry will continue serving passengers on the Tallinn-Helsinki route in accordance with a chartering contract until the new LNG fast ferry currently under construction is ready at the beginning of 2017, informs LETA/BNS.

The sale of fast ferry Superstar will result in a one-off book loss from sale of approximately 7.6 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2015, the company told the stock exchange.

The cash proceeds from the sale will be used mainly to repay loans to continue the deleveraging strategy and for the down payment of the new LNG fast ferry under construction. The group expects to incur one-off costs from premature termination of the loan contract, related to the sale of the vessel.

Change of the ownership and start of the charter period of the fast ferry is planned for December 2015.

The sale of Superstar prepares the group for the delivery of the new generation LNG fast ferry to the Tallinn-Helsinki route early 2017 and supports Tallink's strategy to secure and strengthen its position on its route with largest passenger volumes.
