Ministry: Chinese investors interested in airBaltic

BC, Riga, 28.09.2015.Print version
Chinese investors from Chengdu Municipality could launch direct flights between Riga and the said province in about one year, but further collaboration could evolve in the form of investments in the Latvian national airline airBaltic, Transport Ministry's State Secretary Kaspars Ozolins said in an interview with Latvian Radio this morning, cites LETA.

The first direct route between Riga and Chengdu could be launched in about one year. Cargo shipments could also be part of the deal.

It has been said that there will be a railway connection between Poland's Lodz and Chengdu Municipality for weekly cargo shipments. Afterwards, cargo shipments could be increased to one shipment per day. Poland alone will be unable to process all cargo at once, said Ozolins, which is why this would be an excellent opportunity for Latvian businessmen.

The ministry's press secretary also said that Chengdu Municipality owns several aircraft factories, and that they are well informed about the situation at airBaltic and are ready to invest in the airline.
