BC, Riga, 24.09.2015.Print version
The construction of the Rail Baltica line will affect less than 1,000 properties in Latvia, this according to RB Latvija representative Neils Balgalis during the conference "Top Rail Baltica dzelzceļš" (Creating the Rail Baltica Line), cites LETA.

He also said that a precise plan of the track's layout will be prepared in five months.

Rail Baltica representatives from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia said today that the project's development in all three Baltic States are approximately in equal stages. There are also no problems with the border checkpoints, namely, Latvia has managed to make an agreement with both Estonia and Lithuania. At the moment, all three countries are working on the track's layout, which will be finalized at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, after which technical solutions will follow.

The Estonian representative Indrek Orav explained that there have been protests against the project in Estonia, however, they were not significant. There are some municipalities that wish to move the track elsewhere. The track's layout near Parnu was changed out of respect for the local residents. Like Latvia, Estonia, too, plans on organizing a local traffic.

Arnis Kakulis, Director of the research company AECOM for the Baltic region, said that apart from slight delays, significant processes in Lithuania are no different from those in the other two Baltic States.

The Baltic representatives also indicated that the track could be used for cargo shipments. Orav added that Finnish shipments to Russia's Saint Petersburg Region have great potential, therefore, there will be several additional corridors in the region.
