Port of Tallinn August passenger number increased, cargo volume fell in August

Ports managed by the Estonian state-owned Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) handled in August 1.52 million tonnes of cargo and serviced 1,107,955 passengers; as compared to the same period of the previous year, the cargo volume dropped by 26.3% while the number of passengers was by 3.4% higher than last year, Äripäev's Logistics News theme web reports, cites LETA.

The Port of Tallinn eight months total cargo volume was 15.22 million tonnes, being by 21.7% less than at the same time last year. The total number of passengers in the first eight months was 6.85 million people, or 1.4% bigger than the previous year's record result.

 

In August, traditionally the biggest number of passengers travelled on the Tallinn-Helsinki route, 869,071 people; on the Tallinn-Stockholm route 102,365 people and the Tallinn-St Petersburg route 15,323 people travelled. Cruise ships brought to Estonia 121,093 cruise tourists.

 

In August, 55% of passengers were serviced by Tallink, 20% by Viking Line, 13% by Eckerö Line and 1% by St. Peterline. Cruise tourists formed 11% of all passengers.

 

In eight months, 6.85 million people have used the ports, by 1.4% more than at the same time last year.

 

In cargo trade, by commodity groups, liquid cargo volume declined in August the most, 38.3% to 796,100 tonnes. Bulk cargo volume decreased by 17.4% to 187,600 tonnes. The number of containers passing through the port fell by 14.9% to 18,849 TEU and the quantity of the goods transported in containers by 11.5% to 141,600 tonnes.

 

Among cargo groups, the volume of rolling stock rose compared to the same month last year, by 6% to 351,500 tonnes of rolling stock.

 

In eight months of this year, the total quantity of the goods mediated was 15.22 million tonnes, a fall of 21.7% from last year.
