Architects will start looking for real solution to tunnel between Helsinki and Tallinn

BC, Tallinn, 04.09.2015.Print version
Estonian and Finnish architects will next week start looking for real solution to tunnel between Helsinki and Tallinn; Estonian economy and infrastructure minister Kristen Michal also said this week that the tunnel would be a good investment, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

On 7-9 September, a joint workshop of Estonian and Finnish architects New Talsinki will take place in Tallinn, with the aim of putting together a realistic scenario – how the train connection from Tallinn to Helsinki will be moving and how the fast connection between the cities would affect the infrastructure, urban centres, and living environment of Tallinn. The workshop will be attended by 20 architects from Estonia and Finland, supported by Estonian and Finnish Architects Unions.

Economy and infrastructure minister Kristen Michal said on Tuesday when meeting with the Harju county governor Ülle Rajasalu to discuss what results were obtained in the preliminary study that was recently carried out under the leadership of Harju County government on the project, that the Tallink-Helsinki tunnel is a worthy investment. It was stated that when financing is found for further work, studies of the seabed will be conducted.

While the connection between Tallinn and Helsinki has been talked about for nearly 150 years and both utopian and realistic projects have been presented, no plan has been carried out yet.
