LSC director general: seamen are not under pressure regarding the vessel Deltuva

Sigitas Dobilinskas, director general of Lithuanian Shipping Company (LSC) AB, denies that seamen are under pressure regarding the vessel Deltuva, which arrested in Klaipeda, reports LETA/ELTA, referring to Vakaru ekspresas.

He tries to appeal to seamen's conscience: the company has not received any income in the last three weeks so it cannot pay out wages to its employees.

Petras Bekeza, chairman of the Lithuanian Seamen's Union, claims that a meeting of the LSC shareholders last week allowed the Board of the company to sell all four remaining vessels of LSC. Therefore, seamen find it hard to understand how the company is going to earn any income in the future if the last four vessels are going to be sold.

Asked about LSC's ways of earning money if all of its vessels are gone, Dobilinskas said: "If the bank had wanted to sell the ships, it would not have deferred payments". According to Bekeza, seamen are "under political pressure".
