Estonian millionaire Oleg Ossinovski, who may be implicated in a bribery affair where Latvijas Dzelzcels CEO Ugis Magonis has been detained and suspended from his job, is acquainted with a number of high-ranking Latvian politicians, newspaper Diena wrote oin August 28th, cites LETA.

According to Diena, Ossinovski has in the past met with President Raimonds Vejonis, Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs (Harmony), Usakovs' advisor Eriks Teilans, MP Andrejs Elksnins (Harmony), Unity's leader Solvita Aboltina and MP Dzintars Zakis (Unity).

According to Diena, last July Ossinovskis met with then Defense Minister, now President Vejonis to discuss Daugavpils Lokomotivju remonta rupnica (Daugavpils locomotive repair plant) opportunities to sign a contract with the Latvian Defense Ministry on renovation of former British armored vehicles.

No contract has been signed as the plant failed to receive the Constitutional Protection Bureau and Military Intelligence and Security Service's clearance. Vejonis himself says that he does not remember whether Ossinovski, the richest person in Estonia, participated in that particular meeting.

This past winter, Ossinovski met with Usakovs in a Riga restaurant. Usakovs says that this was the first and only time he met Ossinovski. He said they met by a chance, but adds that he knows Ossinovski's son, Jevgeni Ossinovski – the head of the Estonian Social Democratic Party, quite well.

Teilans and Zakis refused to speak to Diena about Ossinovski.

Aboltina said in turn that Ossinovski was involved in a criminal case, therefore she, an official, could not comment on Ossinovski, as this could be interpreted as an "attempt to give some signals" to the law enforcement authorities.
