PM: if allegations of corruption in Port of Tallinn are true, it’s significant security risk

Prime Minister of Estonia Taavi Rõivas said on August 27th that if the suspicions concerning executives of the Port of Tallinn having taken bribes will be confirmed, this would not only have been an act of immense greed, but also a serious security risk, writes LETA/Delfi.

“Of course, it is extremely regrettable that such serious suspicions have emerged,” said Rõivas at the Government Press Conference, referring to the bribery scandal that has developed in the Port of Tallinn. “Corruption in strategic State-owned companies has to be taken extremely seriously,” he added, and noted that the enterprise will have to co-operate fully with law-enforcement authorities in order to complete the case.

Rõivas pointed out that the investigation is still in the suspicions phase at the moment, and stressed that no one can be condemned before trial.

On Wednesday, the Security Police detained CEO of the Port of Tallinn Ain Kaljurand and member of the Management Board Allan Kiil, suspecting them of having taken bribes in large amounts.
