LDz: Russian railroad repairs will not affect shipments

BC, Riga, 19.08.2015.Print version
Repairs that Russia is planning to carry out on its rail lines with Latvia will not affect the volume of shipments that are transported via Latvijas Dzelcels (LDz) infrastructure, as the company informed LETA.

During a meeting with representatives of Russian Railways on Tuesday, LDz Vice-President Eriks Smuksts found out that Russian Railways plans on carrying out construction works on the Shahovskaya-Sebezh and Sankova-Pytalovo lines.

The number of incoming and outgoing trains on the Shahovskaya-Sebezh line will be reduced from 15 to nine train pairs per day, but on the Sankova-Pytalovo line – from 12 to seven train pairs per day.

Cargo shipments that are transported via LDz infrastructure will not be affected by this reduction, as at the moment, the number of cargo trains on the Shahovskaya-Sebezh line does not exceed seven train pairs per day, but on the Sankova-Pytalovo line – four train pairs per day, Smuksts said.

As reported, Russia intends to carry out construction works on its rail lines with Latvia, meaning that for a period of two months rail traffic will be restricted.
