Baltic biggest engineering firm in trouble with obligations in Estonia

BC, Tallinn, 31.07.2015.Print version
Lithuanian engineering company UAB Kelprojektas that launched its business in Estonia with big ambitions in 2013 has won a succession of public procurements in the past two years but has serious problems fulfilling its obligations, LETA/Äripäev.ee reports.

The company thinks the reasons for this is the lack of human resources and the local higher wage levels, which is why the company currently does not intend to enter into new contracts here.

The company is now in a situation where the Highways Board has fully or partially cancelled five procurement contracts due to broken promises and neglecting deadlines and does not have any complaints only about one project while another, Tallinn-Tartu highway Kose-Võõbu section is currently in works, but also behind schedule.

According to the newspaper, the Tallinn Utilities Board also has problems with the company in connection with the reconstruction of Majaka Street, where the start of construction has been dragging on for several months, so the contract with Kelprojektas was terminated and the new procurement winner has to finish the work of Kelprojektas and build the street next year.

The company's spokeswoman Ingrida Biržiene admitted that many of the important features of the Estonian market were not investigated thoroughly enough.
