The Riga municipal public transportation company Rigas satiksme achieved a 3% increase in turnover last year, reaching EUR 144.7 million, reports LETA, according to Firmas.lv.

However, the company posted a substantial increase in losses – from EUR 676,815 in 2013, to a EUR 4.6 million in 2014.

Despite the fact that the company substantially increased ticket prices last year, Rigas satiksme point out that losses sustained were mostly due to reduction in revenue from ticket sales.

In 2014, 150.5 million passengers were transported by RS and this is by 0.3% more than in 2013. From that, 67.5 million passengers or 44.9% of the total number of passengers were transported at a full price, 16.1 million (10.7%) had a discount, and 66.9 million passengers (44.4%) used the public transport for free.

RS investments in 2014 amounted to 37.4 million euros compared with 31.7 million a year earlier.
