Vessels of Lithuanian Shipping Company to get first financial aid next week

BC, Vilnius, 30.07.2015.Print version
Next week, the arrested vessels of Lithuanian Shipping Company (LSC) are expected to receive first money transfers, said Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius on July 28th, reports LETA/ELTA.

According to him, the goal is to "set free" the arrested ships so that they can leave the ports they are currently stuck in, unload their cargo and later return to Klaipeda. The PM says that a vessel which is currently in a Portuguese port has already moved towards Africa.

The Competition Council, meanwhile, is criticising the Government's chosen way of saving LSC when millions of euros earned by the state company Lithuanian Railways would be used for this purpose.

The Council also warns that Lithuania must first consult with the European Commission as the country later could be facing sanctions. The prime minister said that the issue is being discussed both with the Competition Council and the chief of the European Law Department.
