Vilnius airport to be sold to entrepreneurs

BC, Vilnius, 28.07.2015.Print version
According to Lithuania's Deputy Transport and Communications Minister Arijandas Sliupas, the ministry is currently intensively working on the concession project of the country's airports: it is expected to give them to entrepreneurs already in 2016, reports LETA/ELTA.

This, in the opinion of the deputy minister, will increase revenue to the state budget.

"In general, there is no need for new airports in Lithuania. In the future, the Vilnius airport could be turned into a residential area, since it is not technically possible to make the airport's runway longer and the airport will not be able to meet the needs of the country. The Kaunas airport would be sufficient to Lithuania, however, the speed train project from Kaunas to Vilnius should be implemented together," the politician said in a meeting with the Lithuanian Business Confederation.
