Record number of automobile thefts registered in April-May in Latvia

The largest number of automobile thefts in the past three years was registered in Latvia in April 2015, when more than 100 automobiles were stolen, however, in May, the number was even higher – 110 stolen automobiles, reports LETA, according to data by Autonams.

Concluding the first half of 2015, as usual, the most popular automobile among thieves was "Volkswagen Golf" – 33 stolen automobiles, followed by "Audi A4" – 22, "Toyota Corolla Verso" – 21, and "Volkswagen Touran" – 16 automobiles stolen.

 

The average age of stolen vehicles has reduced by one year, especially in the case of "Audi", where the average age of stolen cars has reduced by 3.34 years, as increasingly more thieves are focusing on newer automobiles.

 

In the first half of this year, automobile thieves have become more interested in SUVs. Nine out of ten stolen automobiles manufactured from 2014 to 2015 were SUVs.

 

Headlight thefts are an increasing problem as well. At the beginning of the year, the majority of stolen headlights were for "VW Toureg" and "Porsche Cayenne" automobiles. Thieves have been increasingly interested also in headlights for "Volvo XC60" and "XC90" automobiles.

 

According to Firmas.lv information, Autonams share capital is EUR 32,015. The company fully belongs to Iveta Sarkane. In 2013, Autonams turned over EUR 2,390,407 and suffered losses in the amount of EUR 128,535.
