Mistakes in public procurements cost Estonian Railways 115,000 euros

BC, Tallinn, 30.06.2015.Print version
State-owned railway infrastructure enterprise Estonian Railways (Eesti Raudtee) had to return more than 115,000 euros for mistakes made in public procurements, writes LETA/Äripäev.ee.

The Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Kristen Michal issued an order on May 20 that the railroad company had to return funds allocated from the Cohesion Fund, and Estonian Railways returned the required amount on June 19.

Firstly, in renovating the railroad between Tallinn and Tartu, the company failed to organize an international public tender for procuring the necessary wooden railway sleepers, although the amount of money involved was such that required an international public procurement procedure.

Another mistake involved the company making a down payment for goods to be procured, although the procurement contract did not require a down payment.
