BC, Vilnius, 20.05.2015.Print version
Yesterday afternoon, a "Kursis M-54" mine countermeasures vessel of the Lithuanian Navy, found the missing Lithuanian aircraft "An-2", reports LETA/ELTA.

It was found about 700 metres away from the last position registered by the Swedish air traffic control radar, as notified by Sweden's Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

The aircraft was found on the seabed, in depth of 124 metres.

A "Kursis'" underwater robotic video camera identified the board number of the located wreck as matching that of the missing "An-2." There was no sign of the two pilots on board – Adolfas Michulis and Alvidas Selmistraitis, both with 40-year flying experience.

Next of kin have been notified of the finding.

The plane was en route from Gothenburg, Sweden, to Palanga, Lithuania, Saturday afternoon, when it went off radar. The control tower at Palanga received a message from the pilots at about 16.16, alas, their final one.
