EVR Cargo's transport volume falls by 31% in March y-o-y

The cargo volume transported by the Estonian state-owned railway cargo transport company EVR Cargo reached 1.042 mln tonnes in March 2015, which is by 31% less than at the same time last year, the company announced, cites LETA.

In the first three months of the year, EVR Cargo transported 3.47 mln tonnes of cargo, by 23% less than at the same time last year.

 

EVR Cargo board chairman Ahto Altjõe said that the transport volumes of all cargo groups continued to fall, except for fertilisers and chemicals goods.

 

The volume of container traffic fell 33% to 4,443 TEUs. "The biggest impact is made here by the temporary closure till May of the Mitsubishi assembly plant in Kaluga but more broadly the general economic situation in the eastern markets," explained Altjõe.

 

The cargo volume of liquid mineral fuels fell 46% to 417,000 thousand tonnes in March; oil shale transport volume decreased due to warm winter by 43% to 93,000 tonnes. 64% less bulk goods were shipped, or 22,000 tonnes. Only the volumes of fertilizers and chemical products grew, rising by 20% and 6% respectively to 341,000 and 82,000 tonnes.

 

Transit operations in March amounted to 752,000 tons, accounting for 72% of the total and decreasing 32% compared to March last year.

 

In three months, EVR Cargo's total cargo volume was 3.47 million tonnes, a decrease of 23% as compared to the same period last year. Mineral liquid fuels volume was 1.36 million tonnes, a decrease of 38% compared to the same period. The volume of fertilizers has increased by 26% to one million tonnes. Chemical goods transport decreased by 11% to 227,000 tonnes and oil shale by 18% to 559,000 tonnes.

 

Container transport volume in three months fell 32% from the previous year, amounting to a total of 12,603 TEUs.

 

First quarter transit totalled 2.3 million tonnes, accounting for 67% of the total volume.
