Stationary speed cameras have registered a total of 1,013 road traffic violations in Latvia since their setup; the highest speeding record – 167 kilometers per hour – was registered on Tinuzi-Koknese Highway, reports LETA, according to information provided by the State Police.

The first stationary speed camera began work on February 12, 2015. A total of nine such devices are currently in operation.

The most prevalent road traffic offenders were operators of BMW, "Audi", and "Volkswagen" autos. The majority of violations took place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Most drivers exceeded the speed limit by 20 kilometers per hour. In four cases, drivers were caught driving at 140 kilometers per hour.

As reported, the first stationary speed camera became fully operational on February 12.

The remaining cameras will become fully operational by the end of March.

A map featuring locations of all speed cameras is available on the Road Traffic Safety Directorate's website.

The Road Traffic Safety Directorate previously indicated that the stationary speed cameras can already be seen as a success, as the speed cameras which are currently operating in test mode have already demonstrated results, as the number of speeding cases has decreased on several roads in Latvia.
