Cargo turnover at Latvia's ports decreased by 5.1% in first 2 months

Cargo turnover at Latvian ports reached 12.84 million tons in January-February 2015, which is 5.1% less when compared to January-February of last year, the Transport Ministry's Transit Policy Department informed LETA/Nozare.lv.

In January-February 2014, Latvian ports handled 13.53 million tons of cargo.

 

The Freeport of Riga handled 6.83 million tons of cargo in January-February 2015, 4.7% more than in 2014. The Freeport of Ventspils handled 4.82 million tons, a 18.4% decrease, the Port of Liepaja – 939,000 tons, a 14.9% increase.

 

Bulk cargo made up the largest part of cargo turnover at Latvian ports in January-February 2015 – 6.09 million tons, followed by liquid cargo – 4.95 million tons, and general cargo – 1.78 million tons.

 

The smallest reduction was recorded for bulk cargo – 2.8%, followed by bulk cargo – 3.6%. The volume of liquid cargo fell by 8.3%.
