Lithuanian Customs detain illegally carried antique coins

While checking this week's postal items in Siauliai region distribution section, Lithuanian Customs' dog-trainers working in Siauliai city discovered in some of the items, as suspected, antique coins sent by a private person to consignees in different countries of the world (Russia, the USA, Sweden, Great Britain, the Netherlands), informs LETA/ELTA.

The detected 7 coins dated 1689, 1549, 1914, 1692, 1696, 1623 were found in six postal items, signed, as believed, under a fictitious name, Lithuanian Customs report.

 

Since the coins were sent in violation of the list of movable cultural property and antiques the dispatch whereof from the Republic of Lithuania requires a permit issued by the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture, the officers detained these coins.

 

The case is currently under investigation, the actual value of the coins is being determined.
