Stamp to commemorate anniversary of restoration of Lithuania's independence

BC, Vilnius, 13.03.2015.Print version
Lithuania Post (Lietuvos pastas) has released a new postage stamp to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Lithuania's independence, reports LETA/ELTA.

The postage stamp designed by the artist Domantas Vildziunas features an Act on the Restoration of an Independent State of Lithuania. The postage stamp has a nominal value of EUR 0.84, Lithuania Post said.

Along with the stamp, the first day cover was released.

On March 11, 1990, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania signed the Act on the Restoration of an Independent State of Lithuania saying that the execution of the sovereign powers of the State of Lithuania abolished by foreign forces in 1940 is re-established, and henceforth Lithuania is again an independent state. The Act gives a reference to the Act of Independence of 16 February 1918 which has never lost its legal effect. The Act was signed by Vytautas Landsbergis, the chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania, and other Council members.

In the course of a year, Lithuania Post issues on average 25-30 postage stamps.
