EU Commissioner endorses development of TEN-T core network

On February 24th in Brussels, Lithuania's Minister of Transport and Communications Rimantas Sinkevicius met European Commissioner for Mobility and Transport Violeta Bulc, informs LETA/ELTA.

The minister presented to the commissioner Lithuania's position, according to which Lithuania applies for the co-funding under the CEF cohesion envelope earmarked for rail projects along with the project Rail Baltica, the Ministry said.

 

"The meeting with the commissioner was constructive and efficient. Our opinions coincide i.e. the TEN-T Core network has to be developed mainly by establishing the cross-border missing links, and, therefore, the project Rail Baltica is one of the key components of it," said Minister Sinkevicius.

 

According to the minister, it was agreed that, in order to ensure that the EU funding for the projects of significant interest to not only to Lithuania, but also other Baltic States and contributing to the Single European Transport area is given, the parties will cooperate in exchange of information.

 

In the near future, the European Commission will evaluate the application for the co-funding of Rail Baltica to be submitted by the February 26, 2015. Lithuania will apply for a total of EUR 365 million of co-funding under the CEF cohesion envelope.
