Latvia offers Finland to become shareholder in Rail Baltica joint venture

Latvian Transport Minister Anrijs Matiss (Unity) has invited Finland to take active part in implementation of the standard-gauge railroad Rail Baltica project and in the work of the Rail Baltica joint venture, taking into consideration the project's importance for the entire Nordic-Baltic region, LETA learned from the Transport Ministry.

Matiss made the offer yesterday during a meeting with Finnish Transport Minister Paula Risikko in Finland.

 

Finland is being offered to become a shareholder in the Rail Baltica joint venture, said Matiss.

 

Matiss and Risikko also discussed transport priorities of Latvia, the presiding country at the Council of the European Union, and Matiss informed Risikko about the implementation of the Rail Baltica project. He went on to say that consolidation of Europe's network of railroads would be one of the objectives of Latvia's Presidency.
