Lithuanian airports create 2.5% country's GDP
The study reveals that Europe's airports contribute to the employment of 12.3 million people earning EUR 365 billion in income annually. Overall, they generate EUR 675 billion of GDP each year – accounting for 4.1% of GDP in Europe.
Lithuanian airports, meanwhile, created 2.5% of the country's GDP in 2013.
"The activities of Lithuania's three international airports in 2013 brought more than EUR 370 million of income and created over 34,000 jobs. It is often assumed that the only contribution of an airport to the state is the taxes it pays, but this is not true. Airports in general add to the country's accessibility, attractiveness and influence the country's investment climate," says Jurate Baltrusaityte, head of the Commerce Department of the Lithuanian Airports.
