Two cargo ships collided in Irbe Strait near Mikelbaka lighthouse yesterday in Latvia; no people suffered in the incident, the Coast Guard Service's spokeswoman Liva Veita informed LETA.

The Latvian Naval Forces Rescue Coordination Center observed two cargo ships performing dangerous maneuvers around 8:30 p.m. last night, which ended in a collision between the Danish cargo vessel "Maersk Etienne" and Panamanian cargo vessel "Coral Opal" near Mikelbaka.

Both ships were damaged in the collision, but both were able to continue their way. No one was injured in the accident.

The Rescue Coordination Center detected no oil spill either.
