Cargo transport at Estonian railways plunged in 2014

Cargo transport volume at the Eesti Raudtee (Estonian Railways Co) infrastructure fell by nearly a quarter in 2014, LETA/Äripäev.ee reports.
In 2014, 19.22 million tonnes of cargo was transported on Eesti Raudtee infrastructure. The year-on-year fall was 21%. The December transport volume was 1.99 million tonnes, a fall of 11.9% in a year.
The amount of goods from Russia was the biggest, 14.4 million tonnes, a fall by 30% in a year. Cargo volumes from Latvia and Kazakhstan grew.
9.83 million tonnes of oil and oil products was transported in 2014, by 35% less than in 2013.
Transit cargo transport fell by 25% and formed 14.08 million tonnes.
Container transport totalled 72,000 TEU in 2014, by 16% more than in 2013.
EVR Cargo transport volume in 2014 was 15.77 million tonnes, a slight fall from 2013. AS E.R.S. transported 3.46 million tonnes of goods, a fall by 59%.
