BC, Tallinn, 22.12.2014.Print version
The United States has earmarked USD 25 million (EUR 20 million) in its 2015 defense budget for upgrading infrastructure at the Amari military base in Estonia, reports LETA/ERR.

The Estonian Ministry of Defense told Estonian news portal Postimees that the money will go into infrastructure development at Amari, while Latvian and Lithuanian air bases will also receive a boost of EUR 8 million and EUR 11 million respectively.

The funding is part of an initiative to back NATO's easternmost allies. The initiative is worth USD 985 million (EUR 800 million) with at least USD 175 million (EUR 140 million) diverted for programs which support the Baltic nations and Ukraine.

Last week, the United States announced it will donate two small transport aircraft to the Estonian Air Force, which will swap out Soviet-era "An-2s".
