Tourism Board has to be restored in Estonia

BC, Tallinn, 15.03.2013.Print version
Since actually no state institution coordinates the tourism sphere in Estonia at the moment, the Tourism Board has to be restored fast, Travel Agencies Union representative Mae Kask says, as reported by LETA/Public Broadcasting.

"Estonian tourism management badly needs a Tourism Board that was unfortunately liquidated in 2000," Kask said, "What happens in tourism management now is a big mess," she said, citing the example of tourist guides whose activities are not supervised at all – for example if a travel agency from St Petersburg organises a trip to Tallinn, they often have an incompetent guide with them. "That is where all the wrong information comes from," she said.

Kask said that the Consumer Protection Board does good work but cannot solve all the problems due to its other tasks while the Tourism Board would control the market and its players much more effectively. "Currently no one coordinates the tourism sector, not even the economy ministry. And everyone interprets laws differently," she said.

Kask said that work is under way to restore the Tourism Board. "It is the best time, since the situation has emerged that some cannot and others don’t want to proceed this way."
