Reduction in air traffic affects hotel business in Estonia

Estonian Hotels and Restaurants Union board chairman Verni Loodmaa said that in 2013 will be worse at the hotels market than last year, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

"Initial figures are not making us cheerful," he said, adding that in April the amount of guests was by 13% smaller than last year and in May the fall was by 10%.

Loodmaa said that indicators show that no major improvement will take place in summer and most likely this summer will be worse than last summer.

Loodmaa said that the major reason why there are fewer foreign tourists is deterioration of transport connections – mainly regarding the plane traffic that is not as busy as last year. He added that only ship traffic is on a good level.

Prices at Estonian hotel market haven’t increased. Loodmaa said that there are fewer conference tourists this year and in resort areas weather and number of events organized are the affecting factors.
