The European tourism portal ''Travelio.net'' has included Latvia on its ''Top 10'' list of most environmentally pure countries in the world. The ranking is according to ''The Economist’s'' Environmental Performance Index which is based on a range of factors including environmental health, biodiversity, air pollution, water use, agricultural methods and tackling climate change.

Latvia is in eighth place on the list, where visitors can ''visit an 'open farm' to learn how food is produced, try some of the eco-friendly farming techniques, and buy fresh and healthy foods which are not available from the city supermarkets. There are many types of different open farms to choose from in Latvia: livestock farms, mushroom farms, fish farms and flower farms. Visitors can stay in beautiful farmstead log cabins and enjoy horse riding, hiking or canoeing on Latvia’s various lakes.''

Switzerland is in first place on the list of most environmentally pure countries, followed by Norway, Sweden, Finland and Costa Rica in fifth, informs LETA.

Eco-tourism travelers are also encouraged by ''Travelio.net'' to visit Austria, New Zealand, Colombia and France, which are respectively 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th on the list.
