Canadian free national daily newspaper "Metro" on July 29 offered an article about entertainment opportunities in Riga, calling the capital of Latvia a draw for sophisticated young travelers.

The Latvian capital features an impressive selection of shops, bars, restaurants and entertainment, "Metro" wrote. And travelers get a good value for money – a result of Latvia's recent economic collapse, reports LETA.

Until recently the Latvian capital was a destination mostly for tourists' stag parties. But Riga is trying hard to transform itself.

"Stag parties are like a childhood disease for emerging economies," notes Janis Vanags, Vice President for Corporate Communications at airBaltic, Latvia's national airline.

Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs wants people to visit his city for medical reasons, too.

"We've got a large supply of doctors. People can come here for medical procedures and get a good combination of quality and service," Usakovs tells the newspaper.
