Significant mobile cultural valuables to be announced as cultural monuments of Lithuania

Seventy most significant mobile cultural valuables are to be announced as cultural monuments of Lithuania at today’s meeting of the Government.

Among the cultural valuables to be included into the list of cultural monuments are paintings of the first half of the 20th century of historic and artistic value, produced by such famous painters as Antanas Zmuidzinavicius, Petras Kalpokas, Justinas Vienozinskis, Kazys Simonis, Adomas Galdikas, Jonas Mackevicius, Kajetonas Sklerius, Adomas Varnas and others.

 

Among these paintings there are some portraits of famous Lithuanian figures: Jonas Basanavicius, Simonas Daukantas, Maironis, Mykolas Birziska Vincas Mykolaitis-Putinas and others, painted by famous artists in the beginning of the 20th century.

 

In addition to that, the sets of wooden furniture of artistic historicism and art deco styles are to be recognized as cultural monuments as well as old clocks of the18th and 19th centuries, chandeliers and other cultural valuables of artistic, historical, integrated and technologic value.

 

The law on the protection of mobile cultural valuables foresees that the Government announces the most significant mobile cultural valuables as cultural monuments that are included into the state record on the proposal of the Minister of Culture with the approval of the National Commission on Cultural Heritage.
