The number of foreign tourists visiting Latvia is likely to grow by up to 10% this year, which would be a very good result, Janis Pinnis, president of the Latvian Association of Hotels and Restaurants, said in an interview with LNT commercial TV channel this morning, cites LETA.

The association’s president indicated that the number of tourists has been growing each year at a steady rate. Last year, the number of tourists grew by 7%.

Pinnis described this summer season as good for the tourism industry. Hotel bookings were not cancelled even despite the relatively bad weather conditions this summer.

A new hotel booking record was set in Riga and Riga Region on July 27 when U.S. rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers performed at Lucavsala, Pinnis said, adding that performances of such world-famous artists are clearly benefitting the tourism industry.

The head of the association also noted that hotel prices have remained stable and unchanging, which represents a challenge to the industry – the prices cannot be further raised although the hotels’ expenses are growing with each year.
