Latvian rural tourism turnover this year likely to grow 10-15%

This summer had been very good for the Latvian rural tourism operators, and rural tourism turnover this year is likely to grow 10-15 % y-o-y, Asnate Ziemele, the board chairwoman of Lauku Celotajs, the Latvian rural tourism association, told LETA.

"This summer was very good. Some of the rural tourism operators have reported hosting 17 wedding parties during summer which means that they have had guests not only on weekends but also on working days,” she said.

Latvian rural tourism operators are pleased with their results this summer. The number of both Latvian and foreign tourists staying in the countryside has increased, and the rural tourism turnover this year might grow 10-15% compared to 2015.

Ziemele said that the number of Russian tourists staying at guest houses in Latvia’s countryside had declined steeply this year but this decline had been offset by the rising demand for accommodations among Latvian emigrants, who returned to Latvia to spend their vacation here.

Established in 1993, Lauku Celotajs is a professional rural tourism association.
