Japanese tourism companies arrive in Latvia to get acquainted with Latgale

A group of Japanese tour operators have arrived in Latvia with the aim of acquainting themselves with Latgale Province, Inta Briede from the Latvian Investment and Development Agency's Tourism Department informed LETA.

The group of nine representatives from various Japanese tourism companies left for Koknese yesterday, from where they took a Viking boat to the Liktendarzs memorial site.

 

The group will then travel to Livani, visit the Mark Rothko Art Center in Daugapvils, as well as Kraslava, Aglona, Ludza and other sites in Latvia's eastern districts. The guests from Japan will also get acquainted with traditional food from Latgale.

 

Participating in the trip to Latgale are representatives of such Japanese tourism companies as JTP World Vacations, Kamome Corporation, Cycle World Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Tourist Club and others. Most of the guest have arrive in Latvia for the first time, but several have visited Latvia before.

 

There has been an increase in the number of Japanese tourists to Latvia the past two years. In 2015, 21,575 Japanese tourists visited Latvia, which is 38.2% more than in 2014, Briede informed.

 

The visit is being organized by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency in cooperation with its marketing partner in Japan Foresight Marketing and Finnish airline Finnair.

 

The visit will last until May 22.
