Tallink carries 1.4% less passengers in April y-o-y

Altogether 704,642 passengers passed through the ports of Estonia's state-owned Port of Tallinn in April 2016, 1.4% less than in April 2015, informs LETA/BNS.

At the same time the number of carried passenger vehicles declined by 2%, while the cargo carriage increased 9.4% to 28,702 units, the company told the stock exchange.

 

The number of passengers grew 4% in annual comparison, to 376,552, on the Estonia-Finland route, but was down 2.5% at 77,850 on the Estonia-Sweden route. The number of passengers on the Finland-Sweden route decreased 8.8% to 214,112 and on the Latvia-Sweden route a drop of 5.7% to 36,128 passengers was recorded.

 

Cargo carriage grew on all routes. On the Finland-Sweden route carriage of cargoes was up 11.3% at 6,645 units, on the Estonia-Finland route it was up 7% at 17,729 units, on the Estonia-Sweden route it grew 16.9% to 3,631 units and on the Latvia-Sweden route also 16.9% to 697 units.

 

The number of cars carried grew 1.7% on the Estonia-Finland route to 66,925 units, but was down 19.8% on the Finland-Sweden route at 9,141 units and down 5% on the Estonia-Sweden route at 5,397 units. On the Latvia-Sweden route 4,067 cars or 8.1% fewer than in the same month a year ago were carried.

 

The biggest impact on carriage volumes was that the cruise ferry Galaxy did not operate for 11 days in April due to scheduled maintenance. The vessel was replaced by cruise ferry Baltic Queen.

 

In addition, the cruise ferry Baltic Queen did not operate for 22 days due to the scheduled maintenance and replacement of the cruise ferry Galaxy.
