Rise in number of tourists in Riga from Western Europe in 2015

Among all customers served by the Riga TIC, 20 % were from Germany, 15 % from Russia, 12 % from Latvia and 7 % from the UK.
Compared to a year ago, the largest rise was recorded in the number of Lithuanian tourists (39 %), which can be explained by the European Basketball Championship last summer. The number of visitors from Benelux countries rose by 37 %, from Spain by 25 % and from France by 17 %.
The majority or 80 % of all tourists were interested in culture, history and most important tourist sights, 56 % inquired about different services - bank and postal services, cafes and restaurants, shopping, 30 % were interested in transport services in Riga, 20 % wanted to attend an event, while 15 % were interested in sightseeing.
TIC head Zane Kursite said that last year the overall number of visitors remained unchanged -- about 250,000. The most active period for TIC was June, July, August, receiving 45 % of all customers.
