Number of tourists in accommodation establishments in Estonia decreased

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2015, 207,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments which is 3% fewer than in November 2014. The number of domestic tourists increased and the number of foreign tourists decreased.

In November, 124,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 7% i.e 10,000 tourists fewer than in November 2014. 69% of the foreign tourists arrived from the neighbouring countries Finland, Russia and Latvia. The number of tourists from Finland decreased 5% in November. The number of tourists arriving from Russia continues to decrease. In November 2015, 38% fewer tourists from Russia stayed in accommodation establishments than in November 2014. The number of tourists from Latvia increased by 2%. Out of the main tourism partner countries of Estonia, there was an increase in the number of tourists arriving from Germany, United Kingdom and Poland. Fewer tourists arrived from Sweden, Norway and France. The number of tourists arriving from Asian countries continues to increase. 77% of the foreign tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Tallinn. The cities of Pärnu and Tartu were the second and third most popular destinations with respectively 7% and 4% of foreign tourists staying in their accommodation establishments.


40% of the clients of accommodation establishments were domestic tourists. In November 2015, 83,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 4% more than in November 2014. 53% of the domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 30% were on a business trip. 28% of the domestic tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Harju, 17% in Pärnu and 12% Tartu counties.


In November, 887 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 18,000 rooms and 41,000 beds were available for tourists. 42% of the rooms and 32% of the beds were occupied. The average cost of a guest night was 36 euros and was a euro more than in November 2014. The average cost of a guest night was higher than the Estonian average in Harju and Lääne counties where it cost 43 and 38 euros respectively.
