Latvia saw 6% reduction of Russian tourists in 2014

The number of Russian tourists visiting Latvia last year reduced by 6% when compared to 2013, reports LETA, according to statistics from the Economy Ministry and the Latvian Tourism Development Agency (TAVA).

The Economy Ministry points out that a reduction in the number of tourists from Russia has been observed since July, but that the total number of Russian tourists in 2014 is still larger than in 2012 and 2011.

 

However, when looking at the total number of foreign tourists visiting Latvia last year, there was a 12.7% increase in the number foreign tourists staying at Latvian accommodation establishments last year. There was an increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Latvia last year from all countries except Russia.

 

The Economy Ministry also points out that there was a 44.8% increase in the number of tourists from England visiting Latvia last year, and a 36.5% increase in the number of tourists from Germany.

 

At the same time, there was also a 7.5% increase in the number of nights foreign tourists spent in Latvia last year, when compared to 2013.
