Construction companies carrying out illegal schemes in regard to EU funded procurements found in Latvia

BC, Riga, 06.11.2014.Print version
A cartel of construction companies carried out an agreement scheme in Latvia in regard to procurements funded by the European Union funds, disguising the process with fictitious general contractor and subcontractor relations, informs LETA.

This is the first violation of competition rights in Latvia, investigated following a tolerance program report.

The tolerance program allows any company, who is or has been involved with illegal contracts, to report about them to the Competition Council out of own volition, submit evidence about the violations, and to receive full immunity from punishment. The majority of competition rights violations in Western European countries are very hard to trace; they are revealed only following information acquired from tolerance program reports, the Competition Council says.

The Competition Council will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. today to discuss the said violation.
