Lithuanian president doubts validity of renovation cost

BC, Vilnius, 14.10.2014.Print version
President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite has expressed doubts in the validity of renovation cost and transparency of public procurement, informs LETA/ELTA.

After sharing her concerns with Chairman of the Competition Council Sarunas Keserauskas regarding the monopolisation of the utilities sector, President Dalia Grybauskaite touched upon renovation prices.

"The Competition Council has to determine what impacts these prices. The utilities sector has to serve people and not the other way round," Grybauskaite's statement read.

The president said that public procurement tendering procedures are also a cause for doubt. It may purportedly impact the intensity of renovation in separate regions.

"We see that renovation in certain municipalities is stalling. It is stalling where one dominant renovation company prevails which wins all public tenders. It should be investigated, whether it is stalling because (people – ELTA) are not interested in renovation, or perhaps because of some other reasons," the president's position was conveyed by Chief Advisor on Economy and Social Policy Giedre Kaminskaite-Salters.
