Government launches Latvian Construction Board

Following the Economy Ministry's proposal, the government approved the establishment of the Latvian Construction Board and its agenda today, reports LETA/Nozare.lv.

The rules stipulate that the Latvian Construction Board is a consulting and coordinating institution with an aim to facilitate the society's involvement in the development and implementation of construction policies.

 

The board will have to offer drafts to the Economy Ministry on various regulations and planning standards of policies, as well as the international legislation of the European Union that concerns the construction industry. The board will also have to inform the public about recent developments in the construction field, and facilitate the integration of various construction-related matters into branch policies.

 

The board will also carry out annual evaluation of construction specialists, and propose the necessity to improve their competence.

 

The board will consist of representatives from the Economy Ministry, Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry, Transport Ministry, Education and Science Ministry, Union of Municipalities of Latvia, as well as representatives from several foundations.

 

The new Construction Board could begin operating on October 1, 2014.
