Mayor: Jurmala ready to buy Kemeri Sanatorium

Jurmala Mayor Gatis Truksnis (Greens and Farmers' Union) is surprised that no one applied for the repeated auction of Kemeri Sanatorium – again, as Truksnis said in an interview with the Latvian Radio, cites LETA.

Truksnis admitted that several Western European companies in the hotel and spa services had shown interest. "I myself participated in several discussions," Truksnis said.

He believes that the best option would be to attract a private investor instead of using the municipalities' funds, nevertheless, "if all else fails", Jurmala City Council will be ready to acquire the sanatorium.

Truksnis refused to provide a specific price that the municipality would be ready to pay, but he revealed that Jurmala City Council has foreseen a certain amount of funds in the city's budget in case the property needs to be privatized by the municipality.

He said he hopes that the next auction in September or October will be successful. If that auction also fails, the municipality will come up with new solutions.
