BC, Riga, 14.07.2014.Print version
About 55% of the total collection of the Latvian National Library's books have been transported to the new library building or the "Palace of Light", public relations specialist at the Latvian National Library, Augusts Zilberts informed LETA.

The building at 6/8 Jekaba Street that was used to store the library's periodicals, Latvian Studies, cartographic publications, as well as rare books and manuscripts, is now fully vacant, while part of books still remains in the building at 14 Krisjana Barona Street. Also, part of the books stored at 75 Terbatas Street has been transported to the new library building.

Shipping books from 3 Krisjana Barona Street to the new library started a week ago. So far, there have been four such shipments to the "Palace of Light". According to Zilberts, some types of music records require extra-careful packing.

It is planned that the stock at 5 Anglikanu Street – about 2,000 to 3,000 books – will be transported in a month's time.

The transfer began on April 14. The full amount – 3.5 million units – will be transported to the new library building until November. The transport is provided by the company FF International Movers. About one million books that are less demanded will remain in the Latvian National Library's "Silakrogs" repository.
