New National Library Building in Riga to be open to the public from end-May

Print versionThe new ''Palace of Light'' National Library building is expected to finally be open to the public from end-May, Culture Minister Dace Melbarde (All for Latvia!-For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK) said during a press conference today, informs LETA.

Although construction of the National Library building has been completed, the building has not yet been accepted into service. This means that the library cannot yet work as per normal.
The minister pointed out that the State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that the building is in accordance with fire and safety regulations.
The State Fire and Rescue Service will make its final inspection of the building next week.
Even though the building is expected to begin work at end-May, the National Library's official opening is scheduled for August 29, the day the library will mark its 95th anniversary.
